[Electrical conversion of sound waves]
Meanwhile, EG Wever and CW Bray recorded a potential waveform with the same shape as a stimulus sound from above the bone near the round window of the cat's middle ear, and called this the cochlear microphone potential (1930). Subsequent research revealed that this potential fluctuation is an electrical phenomenon occurring in the inner ear, and is the sum of the potential changes occurring in the hair cell group and the action potential of the cochlear nerve bundle connected to the hair cells (ED Adrian and H. Davis, 1931). With the development of various electrodes, it became clear that this was the result of the Tasaki method (1952) by Tasaki Ichiji, which was particularly useful in this regard. In this way, it was possible to prove that the results of experiments using cadavers were essentially the same as electrical phenomena in living organisms.
