In Islamic society, the Arabic word for taxation is ḍamān, and the contractor is called ḍāmin. During the Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258), as the bureaucratic system developed, the collection of taxes in the haraj and jizya in each region became the job of a tax collector (āmir) dispatched from the central government, and financial administration was carried out based on strict budgetary arrangements.
