A type of phosphorus-containing mineral. It is widely distributed and is rich in chlorine. Its chemical composition is Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl, but some of the Cl is often replaced by F, CO 3 , or OH. It occurs as hexagonal, columnar crystals or hexagonal thick plate-like crystals, but often exists as a mass aggregate. It is colorless, white, light green, light brown, gray, or has a vitreous luster. Its Mohs hardness is 5, and its specific gravity is about 3. It often occurs as veins in basic plutonic rocks, as well as in contact with igneous rocks, deposits in the same geological zone, and voids in hydrothermal deposits.
