An insect belonging to the Hymenoptera family, family Anthophoridae (illustration). Widely distributed in Japan, it is known as a pest of cedar, larch, and pine trees. Adult body length is 7-8 mm. The body is black, with yellowish-white scutellaria. The antennae are pinnate. The wings are transparent. The legs are yellowish-white, and the femurs are black. The eggs are banana-shaped and orange-yellow. They emerge two to three times a year. They overwinter in the pre-pupal stage. The female adult emerges in spring and lays eggs in a single grain in the mesophyll of an old leaf. The hatched larvae feed on the old leaves. The next generation of female adults lay eggs on both old and current leaves.
