A concept of maintaining and developing good relationships with customers by quantifying and understanding how satisfied they are with a company's products and services.
This marketing method was popular in the United States in the 1980s and is divided into the process of quantifying customer satisfaction through CS surveys and maintaining and improving customer satisfaction through CS manuals. Many Japanese companies adopted it in the late 1990s, but it has also had negative effects on company management, such as excessive service competition in the pursuit of customer satisfaction.
The important thing here is that CS is not about putting the customer first, but about taking concrete action to connect customer satisfaction to sales. With the recent trend towards CRM bringing CS back into the spotlight, the key is to build a process that leads to customer satisfaction and increased sales.

顧客がどれだけ自社の製品やサービスに満足をしているかを数値化して把握することで、顧客との良好な関係を維持・発展させてゆく考え方。
1980年代にアメリカで流行したマーケティング手法で、CS調査による顧客満足度の数値化とCSマニュアルによる顧客満足度の維持・向上のプロセスとに分けられる。90年代後半には多くの日本企業でも導入されたが、顧客の満足を追求するために過度なサービス競争などの企業経営を圧迫する弊害も生じている。
ここで重要なことは、CSとは顧客至上主義ではなく、顧客の満足をいかにして売上につなげてゆくかという具体的なアクションが重要であるということ。近年のCRMの流れから再び脚光を浴び始めている中、顧客満足→売上増大のプロセスを構築することがポイントとなります。
