Thundering Formation - Kaminari no Jin

Japanese: 雷鳴の陣 - かみなりのじん

Since the Nara period, this refers to the practice of courtiers setting up camps in the palace to guard when thunder rang out. Later, when there were three major thunderclaps, the Left and Right Guards would camp in the palace, the Left and Right Guards would camp in front of the Shishinden, and the Chamberlains would stand in the west wing of the Shunkoden. Eventually, the Chamberlains and Takiguchi would visit the palace and play the stringed instrument, and the monks would recite.

奈良時代以降，雷鳴のとき宮中に宮人が陣を立て警固したことをいう。のちには大雷3度に及ぶとき，左右近衛は御在所に，左右兵衛は紫宸殿前に陣し，内舎人は春興殿の西廂に立つようになった。さらには蔵人，滝口が御所に伺候して鳴弦し，御持僧が念誦するだけとなった。
