Crabbe, B. (English spelling) CrabbeB

...The serials of the 1930s and 40s were action-packed, dialogue-light, and aimed primarily at the "Saturday matinee kids," with many of the characters and themes borrowed from newspaper comic strips and comic magazines. The most popular talkie serial was the space-adventure fantasy Flash Gordon (1936), starring Buster Crabbe (1907-1983). It was the most expensive serial, costing $350,000 to make, about three times as much as most serials, and spawned two sequels in 1938 and 1940. With the Second World War, films with anti-Japanese imagery such as "Drums of Fumanchu" (1940) and the anti-Nazi "Jungle Queen" (1941) were produced, and after the war, films such as "Superman" (1948) and "Batman and Robin" (1950) were produced. However, the quality gradually declined and the films continued to get worse and worse, and by the mid-1950s they had fallen out of fashion and were used to fill gaps in programming. Eventually, the genre moved to television, and the last true action series was Columbia's "Blazing the Overland Trail" (1956).
