A collection of tales from the early Kamakura period. Six volumes (though the extant versions lack the third volume). The extant version contains 185 tales, including anecdotes about emperors and aristocrats from the imperial era, as well as Chinese tales. The editor is unknown, but the content shows an intention to show the way an emperor should be, and there is a theory that it is a book of admonition to Emperor Gotoba before the Jōkyū War. The postscript states that it was completed in a hermitage on April 23, 1219 (7th year of Kenpō). As the title suggests, the structure of the volumes is almost the same as Kojidan, except for the Han-chō section in volume 6. However, the writing style is Japanese, and the nature of the tales is quite different. The tales in this book have a strong Confucian didactic quality. There is also a clear attitude of praising academic talent, as well as a sense of past and future thought. Sources include "Kojidan," "Chugaisho," "Fukego," "Chuyuki," and "Choshuuki."
