...The international nature of this style gave rise to the term "International Gothic Style." It began in the late 19th century when French art historian L. Courajod recognized "Universal Gothic" as an "international trend" in European art around 1400. In fact, to support the establishment of this concept, there are many works from this period whose dates have been confirmed but whose place of origin is difficult to determine.
