Silver cod (Anoplopoma fimbria)

Silver cod (Anoplopoma fimbria)
A marine fish of the family Scorpaeniidae in the order Scorpaeniformes (illustration). Its name comes from the shiny silver of its body, but in Canada it is called black cod. However, it is far from being related to fish of the family Gadidae, and is more closely related to the family Falonidae. It is found in an almost continuous range from the southern coast of Hokkaido through the Bering Sea to off the coast of California. It mainly lives on the seabed of the continental shelf slope at depths of 200 to 900 meters. Its body is long and slender, with two dorsal fins separated. Its body color is greenish gray with dark brown net-like spots, and the ventral area is milky white.
