[Shrine maiden]
Among the women who serve shrines, these are the goddesses who play important roles in the Kagura and Yutate rituals. They are also called Suzufuri Miko, Yutate Miko, and Kagura Miko. There are also local terms for these, and some of the more well-known ones are Mikanko, who served in the rituals at the Imperial Court, Itsukinomiya at Ise Shrine, Saiin or Areotome at Kamo Shrine, Sounoichi at Atsuta Shrine, Monoimi at Kashima Shrine, Naishi at Itsukushima Shrine, and Ichi at Miho Shrine.
