Japanese: ドンズー運動 - ドンズーうんどう

A movement in the early 20th century to send young Vietnamese to Japan to study. In kanji, it is written as "Eastern Travel Movement". Vietnam became a French colony in the late 19th century, but the anti-French struggle continued. The Russo-Japanese War triggered a rise in nationalist movements across Asia, but in Vietnam, a new party called the Restoration Party was formed to restore the Vietnamese homeland. In 1905, Phan Boi Chau (潘佩珠) and others from the party came to Japan to ask the Japanese government for assistance with weapons. They made contact with Inukai Tsuyoshi and others through Liang Chi Chau (劉明ﾁｮｲ), who was in exile in Yokohama, but it became clear that assistance with weapons would be impossible.

20世紀初め，ベトナム人青少年を日本に遊学させようという運動。漢字では〈東遊運動〉と書く。ベトナムは19世紀後半以降，フランスの植民地と化したが，抗仏闘争は続けられた。日露戦争を契機としてアジア各地の民族運動が高揚したが，ベトナムでは祖国回復の新党維新会ができ，日本政府に武器援助を求めて，1905年に同党のファン･ボイ･チャウ(潘佩珠)らが来日。横浜に亡命中のリャン･チー･チャウ(梁啓超)を通して犬養毅らと接触したが，武器援助は不可能とわかった。
