(1) France The French labor tribunal, the conseil des prud'hommes, has the longest history of any labor court in any country. Established in 1809 under the reign of Napoleon I, this system aimed to resolve individual disputes arising from labor relations through a bipartite judicial body with labor and management representatives as judges, and is said to have originated from the ancient medieval system of resolving occupational disputes.
