…In the past, it was called the late Commentary School, but more recently it has been called the Advice School. The main form of its writings was the commentaria, but while following the order of the Corpus Juris Civilis, it already focused on the legal text, and did not stick as closely to the text as the glossae, placing emphasis on explaining legal propositions rather than the actual wording. It also placed great emphasis on advice on actual legal cases, which it gave in response to requests from judges (and sometimes private citizens). …
