Phytoseiid mite - Phytoseiid mite

A mite of the Arthropoda phylum, Arachnida class, Acarina order, Phytoseiidae family. Many species are milky white or light brown, but Phytoseiidae is orange. Females are 0.3-0.6 mm long. There are more than 800 species known from around the world, and more than 50 in Japan. Many live on plants and are more active than spider mites. Some species prey on spider mites, and are considered to be natural enemies of spider mites. In particular, Phytoseiidae, native to the Mediterranean coast and Chile, is a well-known natural enemy. Amblyseius longispinosus is distributed throughout Japan, and Amblyseius eharai is common in western Japan, where it is useful for natural control of spider mites on agricultural crops and fruit trees. In recent years, A. longispinosus resistant to pesticides has been identified in tea fields, and research is being conducted to utilize natural enemies in agricultural crops sprayed with pesticides.

節足動物門クモ形綱ダニ目カブリダニ科Phytoseiidaeのダニ。乳白色ないし淡褐色の種類が多いが、チリカブリダニはオレンジ色を呈す。体長は雌0.3～0.6ミリメートル。全世界から800種以上、日本には50種以上が知られている。植物にすむものが多く、ハダニ類に比べて行動が活発。ハダニ類を捕食する種類を含み、ハダニの天敵として有力視される。とくに地中海沿岸およびチリ原産のチリカブリダニは著名な天敵である。ケナガカブリダニAmblyseius longispinosusは日本全土に分布し、ニセラーゴカブリダニAmblyseius eharaiは西日本に多く、農作物や果樹につくハダニ類の自然防除に役だっている。近年、茶園より、農薬に抵抗性をもつケナガカブリダニが確認され、薬剤を散布する農作物において、天敵を利用する研究が進められている。
