Sūidās (English spelling)

Japanese: スイダス（英語表記）Sūidās

An encyclopedic dictionary compiled in Byzantium toward the end of the 10th century. It contains many valuable entries on Greek literature and history, and many fragments from lost works. It compiles its entries from ancient dictionaries, commentaries, excerpts from historians and literary scholars, and the biographical dictionary of Hesychius of Miletus. It also cites sources directly from Homer and his commentaries, Sophocles, Aristophanes, and the Anthology of Greek Writings, as well as from later collections of excerpts.

10世紀末頃ビザンチンで編纂された百科全書的辞書。『スーダ』 Sudaともいう。ギリシアの文学と歴史に関する多くの貴重な項目を含み，失われた作品からの無数の断片を伝えている。古代の辞書，古注，歴史家や文学研究者の抜粋，ミレトスのヘシュキオスの人名事典などから事項を集め，また原典については，ホメロスとその古注，ソフォクレス，アリストファネス，『ギリシア詞華集』からは直接に，その他は後世の抜粋集から引用している。
