A collection of 12 stories, 25 volumes and 69 books. Written by Ryutei Tanehiko. Illustrated by Utagawa Kunisada. Published between Bunka 12 and Tenpo 2 (1815-31 ). This is a kusazoshi book that dramatizes seven famous stories from the world of Kabuki, such as Osome Hisamatsu and Yugiri Izaemon, into a fantastical style, and makes use of the format of a theatrical script by including stage directions and props. The main characters in the illustrations are given portraits of popular actors of the time, giving the book the feel of a theatrical play, and it was well received for its interesting idea of turning Kabuki into paper. The title means "script-style work." Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
