Limited partnerships, along with anonymous associations, are said to have originated from the commenda contracts that were used in maritime enterprises in cities along the Mediterranean coast around the 10th century, in which capitalists entrusted goods, money, ships, etc. to entrepreneurs, who then traveled overseas to trade and shared the profits. Later, a form of collegantia (or societas) emerged in which entrepreneurs also contributed a portion of their capital, and in the 15th century, this differentiated into cases in which capitalists appeared externally as co-business partners and cases in which they did not. The former became the origin of limited partnerships, and the latter developed into anonymous associations. ...
