A people who used to be widely distributed in South Africa, but now mainly live in the Kalahari Desert. Formerly known as the Bushmen. They are characterized by short stature (average height about 150 cm), yellowish-brown skin, and developed buttocks. There were about 60,000 in the early 1980s. They lead a nomadic lifestyle, with men hunting and women gathering, and are known for their egalitarian social principles. They are believed to be the creators of rock paintings in various parts of South Africa, and are said to be one of the oldest inhabitants of Africa. They speak San, which belongs to the Khoisan language family. The old name Bushmen was used by white settlers in the 17th century as a derogatory term to refer to people who live a primitive life in the bush. At a meeting of Bushmen researchers held in Johannesburg in 1971, it was agreed that the name San should be used to refer to people with Bushman-like physical characteristics, and since then, the term has been commonly used.

(1) An American tabloid newspaper. It was first published in 1833 by Benjamin Day of New York as a cheap tabloid newspaper priced at 1 cent to compete with quality papers, which had previously cost 4 to 6 cents, and marked the beginning of the era of the penny paper in America. Its ownership changed hands several times, and in 1923 the title disappeared. (2) A popular British morning paper. It is aimed primarily at the younger generation and has no party affiliation. It was first published in 1964. After the Daily Herald (first published in 1912), which had made a major impact as the first Labour Party daily paper, closed due to poor management, it was purchased by the Daily Mirror group and continued on, and in 1969 it was purchased by Rupert Murdoch. It became one of the largest tabloid newspapers in the UK. Its circulation was 4.05 million copies, making it the number one tabloid newspaper (1997).
