International Telecommunication Union. A specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for standardization and regulation of telecommunications, as well as international coordination. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland. The current organization is divided into three divisions: the Radiocommunication Sector (abbreviated as ITU-R), the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (abbreviated as ITU-T), and the Telecommunication Development Sector (abbreviated as ITU-D).
