This term was first used in American sociology in the 1920s, especially by RE Park and EW Burgess, and was developed in the 1960s by Neil J. Smelser, Kenneth Keniston, and others. It includes the following: (1) Amorphous and unorganized behavior of relatively densely-packed people, such as crowd behavior in the streets such as parades and demonstrations, panic during disasters, expressive crowd behavior such as religious excitement, and aggressive crowd behavior, (2) A public that is widely scattered but debates and forms public opinion on a certain issue through newspapers and other media, and the movement of that public opinion, (3) Organized social movements such as reform movements and revolutionary movements. ...
