Nuk (English spelling)

...Although there are some mixed-race people of Northern European origins, the main inhabitants are Eskimos. Since 1953, it has been a part of the royal domain that is not separate from mainland Denmark, and in 1979, when it became an autonomous region, the name was changed to Kalâtdlit‐Nunât, meaning "land of man," and the capital was renamed from Godthob to Nûk. Since the arrival of Eric the Red in 985 and the naming of the island as the "Green Isle," Northern Europeans have lived there, and in 1126 a bishopric was established there, and it became part of Norway in 1261.
