Japanese: カテンソウ(花点草) - カテンソウ（英語表記）Nanocnide japonica Bl.

A perennial plant of the Urticaceae family that grows in clusters in sunny spots in low mountain areas in early spring (illustration). As it is a small plant, it is difficult to notice after the flowering season. The genus name means "small (nano) nettle family (cnido)". The stems are 10-25 cm tall, produce numerous runners, and actively reproduce vegetatively. The leaves are alternate, small, triangular-oval, and sparsely hairy on both sides. The flowers are unisexual, and the male inflorescences have long stalks that emerge from the top of the stem and bloom in March and April. The female inflorescences have short stalks and are attached to the axils of the upper leaves.
