Engishiki

Japanese: 延喜格式 - えんぎきゃくしき

This is one of the Sandai Kakushiki (Three Imperial Codes), compiled as a supplementary code to the Yoro Code. Compilation began in 905, with 12 volumes of Kaku compiled in 907 and put into effect in 908. It includes Kaku from 869 to 907 by government office, and adds miscellaneous Kaku and temporary Kaku. On the other hand, the 50 volumes of Ippyo (Engishiki) were compiled in 927 and put into effect in 967. The original text of the Engishiki has been lost, and only the text included in the Ruiju Sandai Kaku and fragments are known. In contrast, the Engishiki has been passed down in an almost complete form.

《養老律令(ようろうりつりょう)》の補充法典として編纂された，三代格式(さんだいきゃくしき)の一。905年に編纂が始められ，格12巻は907年撰進・908年施行。869年−907年に至る格を官司別に収め，雑格・臨時格を付け加える。いっぽう式（延喜式）50巻は927年撰進・967年施行。〈延喜格〉の原文は散逸し，《類聚三代格》所収のものと逸文が知られる。これに対し《延喜式》はほぼ完全な形で伝えられている。
