church year

…the church calendar was formed among Christians to commemorate the events of Christ's life in a yearly cycle. That year is called the "liturgical church year." From the three major holidays of the Old Testament, the Church inherited the Passover and Pentecost, and came to celebrate the Lord's Passover (Christ's passion, death, and resurrection) and the descent of the Holy Spirit that occurred on the 50th day thereafter every year.
