1863-64-1936 An Arab tribal leader in the Khuzestan region of Iran. He effectively ruled the region for about 30 years from the end of the 19th century. At the outbreak of World War I, he signed an agreement with Britain and planned to separate and become independent from the Tehran government. In 1918, he united Arab tribes and started a rebellion, but was defeated in a battle with the forces of Reza Khan (Reza Shah Pahlavi) and arrested.
