The third king of the 19th Dynasty of ancient Egypt (reigned c. 1290-c. 1224 BC). Also known as Ramses. He rebuilt Egypt, which had fallen into decline due to the Amarna Revolution (Amarna period). He withstood the Battle of Kadesh, prevented the Hittites from advancing south, and later concluded a peace treaty with them and married a Hittite princess.
