A poet from the mid-Tang Dynasty in China. He was from Wannian County, Jingzhao (Shaanxi Province). In his youth, he valued chivalry and led a free-spirited life as an officer in Emperor Xuanzong's guards, but after losing his job during the An Lushan Rebellion, he turned his back on himself and devoted himself to his studies. He served as the magistrate of Luoyang (Henan Province), the governor of Liyang (Shaanxi Province), the ambassador of Bibu Yinwan, the governor of Chuzhou (Anhui Province), the governor of Jiangzhou (Jiangxi Province), and the left sirangzhong. He was nicknamed Wei Suzhou because he ended up as the governor of Suzhou (Jiangsu Province). As a nature poet, he is known alongside Wang (Wei), Meng (Haoran), Wei (Yangwu), and Liu (Zongyuan), and his style of poetry is described as "clear and refined." He is best known for the following lines: "Thinking of you on an autumn night, I take a walk and write in the cool weather. The mountain sky is clear and the pine nuts fall. The ghost must not yet sleep" ("Autumn Night, Twenty-two Hill Members Dedicated to an External Alchemist"). "Wei Suzhou Collection" consists of 10 volumes and one volume of selected works.
