...The central concept is to consider living organisms as molecular machines. For a molecular machine to become a living organism, there must be a flow of genetic information from DNA to RNA to protein (called the central dogma of molecular biology). The underlying idea is an optimistic one, in a sense, that no matter how complex a biological phenomenon may be, it can be understood by reducing it to the biomolecules that carry out that phenomenon.
