...A large deciduous tree of the elm family found in warm regions. It is planted along roads and many of them have special characteristics such as "enkiri" (cutting off) and "enmusubi" (matchmaking) (illustration). It is also called Yonomi or Enomi. It can reach a height of 20m and has wide branches. The leaves are alternate, slightly distorted oval, 5-10cm long, with three midribs from the base, small sawtooth on the upper edge, and rough on both sides. In April and May, cymes of male flowers are produced from the lower axils of new branches, and 1-3 hermaphrodite flowers are produced in the upper axils. Each flower has four reddish-brown sepals and four stamens. ...
