Erg - erg (English spelling) erg

The unit of work in the CGS system. Its symbol is erg. It is the work done when a force of 1 dyne moves an object 1 centimeter in the direction of that force. It is equal to 1/10 million of a joule. It was proposed by the British Academy in 1873, and its name comes from the Greek word meaning "to work."

CGS単位系の仕事の単位。記号はergである。大きさ1ダインの力が、その力の方向に物体を1センチメートル動かすときの仕事をいう。1ジュールの1000万分の1にあたる。1873年にイギリス学術協会から提案されたもので、名称は「働く」という意味のギリシア語に由来する。
