...German composer. He was a member of the Mannheim School and a pupil of Stamitz, its leader. After studying in Italy, he became concertmaster of the Mannheim court orchestra after his teacher's death, and then became its music director in 1774. In 1778, he moved to Munich when the court moved. He composed many symphonies, concertos, chamber music, ballets and other works. He gave great inspiration to Mozart, who visited Mannheim in 1777-78. His father, Martin Friedrich (1675?-after 1759), who was from Alsace, was also active as a flute player and composer at the Mannheim court. ...

…ドイツの作曲家。マンハイム楽派の一員で，その主導者であったシュターミツの弟子。イタリアで研鑽（けんさん）を積んだのち，師の亡きあと，マンハイムの宮廷オーケストラのコンサートマスターを経て，1774年に音楽監督。78年，宮廷自体の移動とともに活躍場所はミュンヘンに移る。多数の交響曲，協奏曲，室内楽曲，バレエなどの作品がある。77‐78年にマンハイムを訪れたモーツァルトに大きな示唆を与えた。　なお，アルザス地方出身の父マルティン･フリードリヒMartin Friedrich(1675？‐1759以後)もマンハイムの宮廷でフルート奏者，作曲家として活躍。…
