Plague gods such as the smallpox god and the cold god. Since ancient times, epidemics have been believed to be the curse of the spirits (Goryo faith), and to prevent their onset, Michiae festivals were held on the roads. Tsuina was originally an event to drive away plague gods. It was also believed that the plague gods would spread if flowers fell, so flower-stopping festivals were held to prevent the flowers from falling, and when an epidemic broke out within a village, the gods of plague were sent off to the village border or to the sea.
