Sinonovacula constricta (English spelling)
A bivalve mollusks of the family Brachyura that is long from front to back (illustration). Also called Chindai-gai. The shell is 3cm high, 10cm long, and 2.5cm bulge, white, thin and fragile. It is long but slightly flattened, with rounded anterior and posterior ends, a narrow gap between the two shells, and a slight constriction in the middle. The shell is covered with a rough yellow crust that becomes wrinkled at the rear. The soft body is white, and the water tube at the rear end is long and slender with separate inlet and outlet canals, and the foot is pale yellow, large, wedge-shaped and long. Ariake Bay is the main habitat. Kojima Bay was also a famous habitat before it became a freshwater lake.

前後に長いナタマメガイ科の二枚貝(イラスト)。鎮台貝ともいった。殻の高さ3cm,長さ10cm,膨らみ2.5cm,白色で薄くてもろい。長いがやや扁平で,前後端は丸みがあり,両殻の間は狭くあいていてまた中央部でわずかにくびれる。殻上に黄色の粗い殻皮をかぶるが,後方では小じわ状になる。軟体は白色で後端の水管は出入水管が分離して細長く,足は淡黄色で大きくくさび状で長くのびる。有明湾が主産地。淡水湖化する前の児島湾も有名な産地であった。
