A general control method for optimizing dynamic processes. It is contrasted with linear programming and nonlinear programming, but dynamic optimization is a much more complex problem than static optimization, requiring fairly advanced theory and tedious calculations. The theoretical foundations of optimal control lie in the maximum principle derived by Soviet mathematician LS Pontryagin and dynamic programming proposed by American mathematician Richard Bellman. Both were established around the same time around 1960. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
