Pique - Pique (English spelling)

Also called pique or raised weave, it is a thick fabric with a double warp or weft weave, with horizontal ridges, diamonds, or other patterns on the surface due to the seams. Sometimes Bedford cord, which has vertical ridges, is called pique. It is made from silk, wool, cotton, synthetic fibers, etc., and is very thick and durable, so it is used for summer hats, women's clothing, chair covers, blouses, etc.

ピッケ、浮出織ともいい、経(たて)または緯(よこ)二重の組織で、接結点によって布面に横方向の畝(うね)または菱(ひし)形、その他の模様を表した厚地の織物。ときには縦方向に畝のあるベッドフォード・コードBedford cordのことをピケということがある。材料は絹、毛、木綿、合繊などが使われ、非常に厚地でじょうぶな生地(きじ)であることから、夏帽子、婦人服、椅子(いす)カバー、ブラウス地などに使用される。
