Ebola - Évora (English spelling)

Japanese: エボラ - えぼら(英語表記)Évora
Ebola - Évora (English spelling)

The central city of the Alto Alentejo region in south-central Portugal. Population 44,627 (2001). Located at the intersection of the transportation route from Lisbon to the east and the transportation route connecting eastern Portugal from north to south, it developed since Roman times. It escaped Muslim rule in 1165, and reached its zenith as a palace city under King João III, and was home to many writers and artists, but declined after annexation by Spain (1663-65). It has splendid Manueline and Renaissance buildings, and is famous for the ruins of the Temple of Diana, the 12th-13th century cathedral, and the Archaeological Museum. In 1986, the historic centre of Evora was registered as a World Heritage Site (World Cultural Heritage).
