Jeonju - Zenshu
The capital of Jeollabuk-do, Korea. It was the capital during the Baekje period. It was also the home of the Yi clan of the Joseon dynasty, and the gates of Jeonjuseong Fortress, accommodation for high-ranking officials from the central government, and hanok houses from the Joseon dynasty remain, still retaining the appearance of an ancient hanok capital. It is a key transportation hub in the southeastern part of the Honam Plain, Korea's largest grain-producing region. The Jeonju Archives, which holds one of the four handwritten copies of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, was located here. The other three archives were lost during the invasion of Hideyoshi's army, but the copy held by the Jeonju Archives escaped the fires. During the Gabo Peasant War of 1894, the Donghak Party peasant army led by Jeon Sijun barricaded themselves in Jeonjuseong Fortress. It is also famous as the center of pansori. It is also an educational and cultural city, and is home to the Chonbuk National University. In addition to rice, it is famous for paper, fans, and silk, but it is also one of the centers of traditional Korean food culture, and Jeonju bibimbap is said to be the best. 649,728 people (2010).

韓国,全羅北道の道都。百済(くだら)時代には都が置かれた。朝鮮王朝李氏の本貫の地でもあり,朝鮮王朝時代の全州城の城門,中央からの高官の宿舎,韓屋などが残り,今なお韓屋古都の面影を残している。韓国第1の穀倉地帯湖南平野の南東部に位置する,交通の要衝。朝鮮王朝実録の手写本4部のうちの1部を保管する全州史庫が置かれ,秀吉軍の侵略で他の3史庫は消失したが,全州史庫所蔵本だけは戦火を免れた。1894年の甲午農民戦争の際には,全執準の率いる東学党農民軍が全州城に立てこもった。パンソリの中心地としても名高い。教育文化都市でもあり,国立全北大学校がある。米穀のほか製紙,扇,製糸などが有名だが,韓国の伝統食文化の中心地の一つで,全州ビビンバは最高の味といわれる。64万9728人(2010)。
