Kawajiri

Japanese:
Kawajiri
During the Heian and Kamakura periods, a stopover was said to be a place where boats always moored on their way from Kyoto down the Yodo River to the western provinces. The place name "Kawajiri" and its appearance can be seen in many historical documents, such as diaries, travelogues, stories, and waka poems from that time. Since "Kawajiri" originally meant "the end of a river," the location it is identified with may differ depending on the historical document, or it may not be considered a specific place name. However, "Kawajiri" and "Kawajiri" that appear in "Takakurain's Visit to Itsukushima" and the entry for March 19, 1180 in "Sankyoki" are identified with the area around Daimotsu-cho in the southeastern part of Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. On the other hand, the "Kawajiri" that appears in the Azuma Kagami entry for November 5, 1185 (the first year of the Bunji era) and the Gyokuyo entry for November 4, 1185, is a different place from Omonohama, and is presumed to refer to Eguchi in present-day Higashiyodogawa Ward, Osaka City.
