Commodities that are traded on the commodity exchange, which is a legal market. Exchanges determine the listed commodities in their articles of incorporation. When the Commodity Exchange Act was enacted (1950), there were nine legal commodities and three government-designated commodities listed, but a 1975 amendment to the law changed all commodities to government-designated commodities. Currently, listed commodities include raw silk such as cotton yarn, wool, raw silk, and stamen yarn, as well as dried cocoons made from raw silk, refined sugar, raw sugar, soybeans, adzuki beans, sorghum, rubber, and gold. Qualifications for listed commodities include (1) a large circulation volume, (2) the ability to hold for a certain period of time with no change in quality, and (3) volatile price fluctuations that create a high need for insurance coverage. Assuming that the parties dealing in the commodity wish to list it, approval is given by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for agricultural products and the Minister of International Trade and Industry for industrial products.

法定市場である商品取引所で売買の対象となる商品。取引所は定款で上場商品を定める。商品取引所法制定(1950)当初の上場商品は九つの法定商品と三つの政令指定商品であったが，1975年の法改正で全商品が政令指定に改められた。現在の上場商品には，綿糸，毛糸，生糸，スフ糸などの原糸と生糸原料の乾繭，精糖，粗糖，大豆，小豆，大手亡，ゴム，金などがある。上場商品の資格としては，(1)流通量が大きい，(2)一定期間，品質に変化がなく保有がきく，(3)値動きが激しく，保険つなぎの必要性が大きい，などであり，その商品の取扱関係者の上場希望を前提に，農産物は農林水産大臣，工業製品は通商産業大臣がそれぞれ認可する。
