[Restoration Period]
With the Restoration in 1660, London's theatres reopened, and actresses and other things not seen before the Revolution appeared. Theatres were limited to indoors, and the stage was closer to the modern picture stage, although it still had an apron that extended out over the audience. Less elaborate devices were used, curtains were introduced, although they were usually lowered only at the end of the play, and artificial lighting was also introduced.
