Enniskillen (English spelling)
The capital of County Fermanagh in the west of Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Population 6,608 (1971). Originally a small island in the river connecting Upper and Lower Lough Erne, it was the site of a local chief's fort due to its strategic importance. It is known as the site of a great victory for the Protestant forces of William III over the Catholic forces of James II in 1689. Oscar Wilde was also a student at the Royal School here. Currently, there is a livestock market, meat processing plants such as bacon, and chemical industries such as nylon.
