Eniwa [City] - Eniwa
A city in the southern part of the Ishikari Plain in Hokkaido. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. It is located between Chitose and Sapporo, and is served by the Chitose Line and the Do-o Expressway. The eastern part of the city is a rice paddy area, the western part is mountainous, and in the center there is a vast plain known as the Shimamatsu Training Area. The city produces rice, potatoes, and timber, and also grows vegetables and flowers in suburban areas. Taking advantage of its convenient transportation, the city has attracted businesses to industrial parks, and since 1990 the population has increased rapidly. There are many service industry workers, such as restaurants, due to the presence of a Ground Self-Defense Force garrison. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 294.65 km2 . 69,384 people (2010).
