Nafir (English spelling) nafir [Arabic]
A type of aerophone, a straight metal trumpet used in traditional military music in the Islamic world from Morocco in the west to Malaysia in the east. It is also called nufil or nafiri. Its playing style is often depicted in Persian, Turkish, and Mughal miniature paintings of war scenes. Nafil is originally an Arabic word, but was brought to the Iberian Peninsula by Muslims after the 11th century and adopted as añafil in Spanish and anafir in Portuguese.
