A North American perennial plant of the lily family (illustration). It is closely related to the genera Melanthus and Melanthus, which have primitive floral structures, and like them, contains toxic alkaloids in the plant body. The stem is 70-150 cm tall and bears a panicle at the end. The perianth has six petals, greenish-white in color, and is about 1 cm long. A well-developed spur is present at the base of the perianth, which distinguishes it from the genera Melanthus and Melanthus. Like the Melanthus genus, there is a pair of glands at the base of the upper surface of the perianth. The genus Melanthuium (English name: bunch flower) is endemic to eastern North America, and four species are known. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
メランチウム属Melanthium(英名bunch flower)は北アメリカ東部特産で,4種が知られている。
