...This theory, formulated by the playwright Nikolai Evgen'evich Virta (1906-76) and others, was criticized in 1952 by the Communist Party's newspaper Pravda, but the problem was not limited to playwrights; the theory was a concentrated expression of the general tendency in Soviet literature to be afraid of depicting the negative aspects of reality and to romanticize reality after the criticism of Zhdanov. This tendency was common to Stalin Prize-winning literature after World War II, such as Semyon Petrovich Babaevskii's (1909- ) two volumes of Knight of the Order of the Gold Star (1947-48).
