Regicide

...In the broad sense, it refers to any illegal killing, but in the narrow sense, it means killing for political reasons. The fact that such cases can be traced back to the emergence of political power is evident from the fact that regicides exist in all cultures, both past and present, both in the East and the West. The question of whether or not to kill a dictator or tyrant for political or religious reasons, such as the assassination of Caesar in ancient Rome, was a topic of debate in European political thought, known as the debate over the monarchy.
