Praphat Charusathien (English)

...The construction of higher education institutions, television stations, and other facilities in the provinces also promoted unprecedented development in regional cities. After Sarit's death in 1963, the government was succeeded by two military leaders, Thanom and Praphat Charusathien (1912-1997). Unable to resist public pressure, the Thanom-Praphat government finally enacted a constitution in 1968 and held elections the following year, but tensions rose due to changes in the domestic and international political and economic situation, and in 1971 they again resorted to a coup d'état, seizing full power and trying to settle the situation.
