[history]
Aquincum, built in the 2nd century during the Roman period on the right bank of the Danube in what is now Obuda (upstream from Buda), was the starting point of Budapest, a Roman military garrison, and the capital of Lower Pannonia. In the early 5th century, the Huns arrived, and various tribes subsequently occupied the area.
