Korean independence activist and politician. His name is pronounced "Ryo Unko" in Japanese. After the Japan-Korea Annexation (1910), he defected to China, where he organized the New Han Youth Party in Shanghai and sent a representative to the Paris Peace Conference. After the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919, he participated in the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. In the same year, he visited Japan at the invitation of the Hara Kei Cabinet and attracted attention by advocating Korean independence. In the same year, he attended the Far East National Congress in Moscow. In 1930, he was arrested in Shanghai and served three years in prison before returning to Korea. After serving as president of the Chosun JoongAng Ilbo newspaper, he worked to prepare for liberation. At the time of liberation in 1945, he formed the Korea Founding Preparation Committee and became its vice chairman when the People's Republic of Korea was established. After the US-Soviet conflict, he worked to promote left-right cooperation, but was assassinated by the Syngman Rhee faction. 朝鮮の独立運動家,政治家。日本語読みは「りょ・うんこう」。日韓併合(1910)後中国に亡命し,上海で新韓青年党を組織しパリ講和会議に代表を派遣し,大正8(1919)年の3・1独立運動後は大韓民国臨時政府樹立に参加した。同年原敬内閣の招請で訪日し,朝鮮独立を主張して注目を浴びる。同11年にはモスクワでの極東民族大会に出席した。民国19(1930)年上海で逮捕され3年の服役後に帰国し,『朝鮮中央日報』社長などを経て解放に備えて活動した。1945年解放に際し朝鮮建国準備委員会を結成し,朝鮮人民共和国樹立に当たり副主席となる。米ソ対立後左右合作に努めるが,李承晩派に暗殺された。気骨ある政治家で人気が高かった。<参考文献>姜徳相「青春時代の呂運亨」(『季刊三千里』)
